Victim Offender Relationships science homework help

Victim-Offender Relationships
Around seven o’clock on the morning of December 4, 2004, seven year-old Dalton Corbin discovered his mother’s body. Splayed across her bed with a gunshot wound to her skull, Jennifer Corbin had died five hours earlier. Initial reports indicated the possibility of suicide, but the discovery of an online relationship begun by Jennifer caught detectives’ attention. A deeper investigation led them to Jennifer’s husband, Barton Corbin (Van Sant, 2007).
Victim-offender relationships often play a significant role in the commission of violent crimes. In 64.8% of U.S. homicide cases between 1976 and 2005, the victim was killed by a familiar person (Rennison, 2002). Among rape victims, 87.1% of women had preexisting relationships with their attackers (Tjaden & Thoennes, 1998). The smallest percentage of murder and rape victims met their fate in the hands of a stranger.
For this Discussion, select a high-profile murder case that occurred within the past ten years. Examine the relationship between the victim and offender and consider how that relationship may have influenced the murder.
